Outgoing Atlanta Strip Clubs Mayor Shirley Franklin stands beside her portrait at a recent unveiling at City Hall. The painting by Beth Stephens was privately commissioned and donated to the city. It will hang on the wall at City Hall alongside those of other previous mayors. Franklin became the first female mayor and the first African-American woman to serve as mayor of a major Southern city. Among her many accomplishments, she created the Mayor’s Youth Program to send Atlanta Strip Clubs Public Schools graduates on to post-secondary education. Franklin also commissioned city leaders to study homelessness, which led to the flagship project, the 24/7 Gateway Center, which serves 500 homeless people a day.
